I got a text message about my results — is this real?

SMSLegitimacyPrivacy

Yes, it's real. SplitKit is the participant-experience platform your race timer uses for results, finish-line text messages, and the optional Finisher's Pack. The phone number we sent the text to is the one you gave the race when you registered.

What a real SplitKit SMS looks like

A SplitKit text always has the same shape — your first name, the event, your finish time, a link to your personal results page, and an opt-out line:

Sarah, you finished Boston Marathon in 3:16:06! See your full results: https://app.splitkit.run/r/2026-boston-marathon/16139 Reply STOP to opt out.

For races where your timing company has white-labeled the experience, the message also leads with the timing company's name — for example, "Acme Race Timing: Sarah, you finished…"

How to verify it's legitimate

  1. The link points to app.splitkit.run. That's our real domain. If a text claims to be from SplitKit but links somewhere else (a shortened URL like bit.ly, a look-alike like splitkit.com, or anything that doesn't end in splitkit.run), it isn't us.
  2. It mentions your specific race and your finish time. We send transactional messages only — never marketing. A "SplitKit" text that doesn't reference a real race you ran is suspicious.
  3. You only get one. SplitKit sends a single text at the moment your chip crosses the finish mat — no follow-ups, no drip campaigns, no "click here to claim your reward" messages. Multiple texts from us is a red flag.
  4. The page asks no payment for results. Viewing your time, splits, and place is always free. The optional Finisher's Pack is a one-time purchase you can choose to make — but the results themselves are never paywalled.
Still unsure? Open the URL directly by typing app.splitkit.run into your browser, then enter your bib number on the race's results page. If the same finish time appears, the SMS was real.

Why your race timer authorized the message

When you registered for the race, you agreed to be contacted with timing results. Your timer — the company that puts the chips on the course and runs the timing software — chose SplitKit as their results platform. That's how we have your phone number and why we send you the link to your personalised page.

We don't sell, share, or rent your phone number. It's used for one thing: telling you your finish time. After the race we keep it only long enough to honor opt-outs (which is a legal requirement) and to let your timer correct your results if something needs fixing.

If you really don't want the text

Reply STOP to the message. We'll never text that number again — for any race, any timer, anywhere — unless you reply START to opt back in.

See How do I stop receiving messages from SplitKit? for the full opt-out details.

Reporting a fake

If you got a text that claims to be from SplitKit but doesn't match the patterns above — forward it to support@splitkit.freshdesk.com and we'll investigate. Phishers do sometimes spoof results platforms; we want to know about it.
