I finished the Championship 5K at the Mid-State Conference XC Championships in Bloomington, Illinois in 16:50, averaging 5:25 per mile across the 3.1 miles. This event runs finish-line-only timing, so there were no checkpoints along the way, just the gun at 9:00 a.m. and the clock waiting at the tape. I crossed 7th of 936 overall, 4th among the men, and 4th in the 19U division. Racing without splits meant trusting the pace I had set going in and holding it blind, with no readout to chase or protect until the finish line answered every question at once. Representing Pennsylvania at a conference championship in Illinois, that 16:50 felt earned.
