Social Media Race Story

Marathon done: 2:52:35, 6:35 per mile average, and I am calling that a win. The plan was even effort and I actually stuck to it, 6:13 through the first three miles and still 6:11 by mile six, my fastest of the day. Nine, twelve, fifteen: 6:30, 6:30, 6:27, locked in like a metronome. Then mile eighteen happened. Everyone talks about the wall and mine showed up right on schedule: 6:51, then 6:50, then two more at 6:54 to close it out, forty-three seconds slower than my best pace and I felt every one of them. I did not blow up though. I did not walk. I just got slower and kept moving, which some days is the whole job. Twentieth of the twenty of us across the line so far today, tenth in the Pro division, with plenty of the field still out on the course behind me. Even splits get you to eighteen miles feeling like a hero. What happens after that is the actual race. Today it cost me forty-three seconds a mile, and I am still proud of how I finished it.

Detailed Race Performance

Carmen Ortiz, SplitKit Marathon Weekend Detailed Race Performance

You finished the SplitKit Marathon Weekend's Marathon in 2:52:35, averaging 6:35 per mile (4:05 per km) across the full 26.2 miles, good for 10th in the Pro division. Twentieth of the twenty runners across the line so far today is a live standing, not a final rank, with the field still out on the course. The shape of your race is even effort meeting a hard back half: a tightly bunched middle third, then a slower closing stretch that never fully recovered.

Pace Progression

Your quickest mile came early: 6:13 through the first three miles, then 6:11 by mile six, your fastest pace of the day. The middle third held remarkably tight: 6:30 at mile nine, 6:30 again at mile twelve, and 6:27 at mile fifteen, three splits within three seconds of each other. Mile eighteen is where the shape changed: 6:51, then 6:50 at mile twenty-one, then two more splits at 6:54 through mile twenty-four and the finish. That is a 43-second spread between your fastest mile (6:11) and your slowest (6:54), all of it opening up after mile fifteen.
