How do I stop receiving messages from SplitKit?
Reply STOP to any SplitKit text — we'll never message that number again, for any race or any timer. For emails, click the unsubscribe link in the footer. SplitKit only sends one text and one email per finish; there are no follow-ups, drips, or marketing messages to worry about.
For text messages
Reply STOP to the SplitKit text message. Your phone carrier (or our SMS provider's auto-responder) confirms with a short acknowledgment, and we add your number to our suppression list immediately.
The STOP applies broadly:
- All races, all timers. If you opt out for one event, future races using SplitKit also won't text you.
- Permanent. The opt-out doesn't expire. We have to keep your number on the suppression list indefinitely so we don't accidentally re-add you later — that's a legal requirement, not a dark pattern.
- Reversible. Reply START to re-enable. The next time you cross a finish mat in a SplitKit-run race, you'll get the SMS again.
These keywords also work: STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT. Capitalization doesn't matter.
For email
Every finish-line email has a one-click unsubscribe link in the footer. Click it and you're done — no login, no extra screen. The unsubscribe is per-timer: opting out of emails from one race doesn't affect another timer's emails to you. (SMS opt-outs are global; email opt-outs are per-sender. That's how the underlying email standards work.)
Your email client may also expose a "Unsubscribe" button in its header — Gmail, Apple Mail, Outlook, and Yahoo all read the unsubscribe link in our headers and surface it natively. That works the same way.
What data does SplitKit keep after I opt out?
For SMS opt-outs we keep your phone number on the suppression list indefinitely. We're not allowed to delete it — without it we can't reliably honor your opt-out the next time a race tries to message you. The record on file is literally just "this number opted out on this date." No name, no race linked.
Other data has shorter retention windows. The relevant bits:
- Your results data + personal results page — kept for the life of your race timer's relationship with SplitKit, plus one year, then deleted or de-identified.
- Finisher's Pack purchase records — kept 7 years (US tax retention requirement).
- Support email correspondence — kept 3 years from the last interaction.
For the full retention schedule, see SplitKit's privacy policy.
How to delete your data
If you want everything we have about you deleted — not just the future messages stopped — email support@splitkit.freshdesk.com from the same email address you registered with. We'll confirm and process the deletion within 30 days.
A few records have to stay even after deletion: financial records from any Finisher's Pack purchase (7-year tax retention), audit records of the deletion itself, and your SMS suppression entry. The rest — your results, your personal results page, your name and email — comes out.
